Buying car parts in Spokane

Spokane is on the dry side of the Cascades and it has almost nothing in common with Seattle. Real winters with treated roads produce genuine underbody corrosion, and hot dry summers age rubber and plastic — the two mechanisms the coast never applies.

We ship anywhere in Spokane, including Downtown, the South Hill, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Liberty Lake and Mead.

This page has not been published to search engines yet. Everything on it is current. It is waiting on a person to read it and sign it off.

A different state from the same registration

Everything most people know about driving in Washington is about the west side: rain, no road salt, brakes that rust because they never dry out.

Spokane has none of that. East of the Cascades the climate is continental — cold winters with real snow, hot dry summers, low humidity, and roads that are treated in winter.

The consequences are almost exactly inverted.

Corrosion comes from underneath, not from damp. Road treatment means the salt-belt failure list applies: brake lines corroding from the outside and failing under pressure without warning, caliper slides seizing, wheel speed sensors bonding into aluminium knuckles, and every underbody fastener becoming a question about whether it will undo or snap.

Freeze-thaw breaks up road surfaces. Water gets into a crack, freezes, expands, breaks the surface apart, then thaws and lets traffic finish the job. The coast, which rarely freezes, does not have this. Spokane does, and the potholes and patched surfaces that follow are a suspension problem.

Summer ages rubber and plastic. Hot, dry and sunny, which hardens bushings until they crack rather than wear, makes plastic cooling components brittle, and hazes headlight lenses.

Cold that finds things

Winter here is sustained rather than occasional. At twenty below a battery delivers a fraction of its rated current while the oil the starter has to turn is at its thickest — demand rising exactly as supply falls.

The damage that kills a battery mostly happens in summer heat; cold is what reveals it, on the least convenient morning. Replace on age, before winter, at your convenience.

Coolant tested on freeze point rather than on colour, and washer fluid rated for the actual temperature rather than the summer mix, are the other two cheap items that matter and get forgotten.

The passes

Spokane sits east of the Cascades, so any trip to the coast crosses them, and the routes east and north climb as well.

A sustained descent is continuous braking heat with no interval to shed it — fade first, then boiling fluid, then a pulsation from uneven rotor cooling. Brake fluid absorbs water from the air over years regardless of mileage. Testing it takes a minute.

The passes are also where the heaviest chemical treatment is applied, so a car that crosses them regularly sees considerably more corrosion exposure than one that stays in the valley.

Nothing tests the car

Washington ended its emissions testing programme in 2020 and has never had a periodic safety inspection. There is no state check of any kind on a registered vehicle.

For a used car that means no test history at all, and nothing in the record indicating whether the check engine light has ever been on. Reading the stored and pending codes with a scan tool before buying is worth more here than in a state where a test would have caught them — and looking at the underside matters more here than it would on the coast.
