Bilstein Complete Strut Assembly Pair — Front

Bilstein · SKU SAP-00024 · Our ref 24-100024

A complete strut assembly is a strut, coil spring, upper mount and bearing pre-assembled as one unit, so no spring compressor is needed. That matters: compressing a coil spring is the most dangerous job in suspension work. Struts are replaced in axle pairs, because one new and one worn makes a car handle unevenly.

Supplied by Bilstein.

In the box: 2 complete strut assemblies (left and right); Coil spring, upper mount and bearing pre-assembled on each; Dust boots and bump stops fitted.

Common questions

Do I need a spring compressor for a complete strut assembly?
No, and that is the main reason to buy one. A complete assembly arrives with the coil spring, upper mount and bearing already fitted, which removes the single most dangerous step in suspension work — a compressed coil spring stores enough energy to kill.
Should struts be replaced in pairs?
Yes, always by axle. A new strut on one side and a worn one on the other gives the two wheels different damping rates, which makes the car pull under braking and behave unpredictably in an emergency swerve.
Do I need a wheel alignment after fitting struts?
Yes on almost every vehicle. The strut locates the top of the hub, so replacing it changes camber and often caster. Driving on it unaligned wears a new tyre out in a few thousand miles.
What are the symptoms of a worn strut?
A floating or wallowing ride, the nose diving heavily under braking, the car continuing to bounce after a bump, and cupped or scalloped tyre wear. Visible fluid on the strut body confirms it, but plenty of worn struts never leak.
