Denso Alternator

Denso · SKU SAP-00116 · Our ref 210-576

The alternator charges the battery and runs the vehicle's electrics while the engine is running. A failing one shows as a battery light, dimming headlights at idle, or a battery that keeps going flat despite being new. Output in amps and the pulley type must match the vehicle — a unit with too little output will run the battery down under load even though it fits.

Common questions

What are the symptoms of a failing alternator?
A battery warning light, headlights that dim at idle and brighten when revved, electrical accessories behaving erratically, and a new battery that keeps going flat. A failing bearing often adds a whine that rises with engine speed.
Does a higher-amp alternator fit?
Sometimes physically, but it is rarely a good idea. The charging system, wiring gauge and control strategy are matched to the original output, and a much higher-rated unit can overload wiring that was never sized for it.
Is the pulley included with the alternator?
Yes on these units. Pulley type matters as much as output: an overrunning or clutch pulley cannot be swapped for a solid one, because it exists to absorb the crankshaft pulses that would otherwise shake the belt system.
Why does the alternator have a core charge?
Remanufacturing depends on recovering the original housing and stator, so a refundable deposit is charged at purchase and returned when the old unit comes back within the stated window.
