Cardone Starter Motor

Cardone · SKU SAP-00125 · Our ref 19-3085

The starter motor turns the engine over until it fires. A single loud click with no crank, or a grinding noise on start, are the usual signs. Tooth count on the pinion and the mounting bolt pattern must match the flywheel, and vehicles with stop-start systems use a heavy-duty starter rated for far more cycles than a conventional one.

Supplied by Cardone.

In the box: 1 remanufactured starter motor; Solenoid fitted; New drive gear and bushings.

Common questions

What does a failing starter motor sound like?
A single loud click with no cranking usually means the solenoid is engaging but the motor is not turning. Rapid clicking more often points at a flat battery. A grinding noise on start suggests the pinion or the flywheel ring gear is damaged.
Does the starter come with the solenoid?
Yes, fitted. The solenoid both engages the pinion and switches the heavy current, and it is a common failure point, so it is replaced as part of the unit rather than separately.
Does a stop-start engine need a special starter?
Yes. A stop-start system restarts the engine many times per journey, so the starter is built for an order of magnitude more cycles, with a heavier-duty solenoid and brushes. A conventional starter fitted to one wears out quickly.
