A headlight assembly is the complete housing, lens, reflector and light source. It is replaced after a collision, when the lens has hazed beyond polishing, or when moisture has got inside. Bulb technology decides fitment more than anything else: halogen, HID and LED versions of the same vehicle use different housings and different wiring, and they are not interchangeable.

Common questions

Is this headlight halogen, HID or LED?
These are different housings and different wiring on the same vehicle and are not interchangeable. A halogen bulb in a projector designed for HID produces a poor beam pattern, and LED assemblies often need the vehicle's lighting module to recognise them.
Does a replacement headlight need to be aimed?
Yes. Aim is set at the assembly, not the bulb, so a new housing starts wherever its adjusters happen to sit. A badly aimed headlight either dazzles oncoming drivers or lights the road ten metres short.
Is this headlight DOT approved and street legal?
Assemblies sold for US road use carry a DOT marking on the lens. It is worth checking, because a housing without it may fail inspection regardless of how well it performs.
Are bulbs included with the headlight assembly?
It varies by part. Some ship complete with bulbs or with the LED source built in; others are supplied as an empty housing to take the original bulbs. The listing states which.
