Brembo, the brake maker from the Bergamo area of northern Italy, makes rear rotors and pads for ordinary commuters as well as performance models. On many cars the rear rotor hides a small drum inside its hat for the parking brake shoes, and those shoes should be checked and adjusted whenever new rotors go on. Back the parking brake adjuster off if the old rotor will not slide over the shoes.

A rear brake kit contains both rear rotors and a full set of rear pads. Rear brakes outlast front ones because the front axle does most of the stopping, so they are often replaced on the second front service. Vehicles with an electric parking brake need the caliper wound back electronically.
