What 2015–2020 F-150 owners report about the exterior lighting

Owners have filed 29 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the tail or brake lights on the 2015–2020 Ford F-150, and 71 filed under its exterior lighting. Those 29, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:

  • 2015 F-150: 7 complaints

NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.

A 2015 F-150 owner, NHTSA complaint 11561903: "Vehicle has a catastrophic design flaw. If water enters the LED BLISS tail light assembly even in small amounts for anreason, including due to manufacturing defects, minor damage such as a crack, e treme wet weather, or wear and tear of seals, then numerous electrical failures occur of the entire warning system."

A 2019 F-150 owner, NHTSA complaint 11571658: "my drivers side tail light burned out. I replaced with the recommended bulb Sylvania 3057. several months later, the same tail light became very dim, and upon removing the assembly, I noticed the sockets for the bulbs were melting. I was told by the Ford dealer service writer that this was caused by poor quality bulbs."
