Detroit Axle CV Axle Pair — Front
Detroit Axle · SKU SAP-00219 · Our ref DA-1159
A CV axle transmits drive to the wheel while letting it steer and move with the suspension. The symptom is a rhythmic clicking on full lock, or grease flung inside the wheel from a split boot. Length and spline count differ left to right on most transverse engines, so the sides are not interchangeable.
Supplied by Detroit Axle.
In the box: 2 complete CV axle assemblies (left and right); All four joints and boots fitted; Axle nuts where supplied.

Common questions
- What does a failing CV axle sound like?
- A rhythmic clicking or knocking on full steering lock, most obvious at low speed in a tight turn, and usually louder in one direction than the other. A vibration that builds with speed points at the inner joint instead.
- Are CV axles side-specific?
- On most transverse-engine vehicles, yes. The two sides differ in length and often in spline count, because the gearbox sits off-centre, so left and right are not interchangeable.
- Should I replace the axle or just the boot?
- If the boot has only just split and no grit has entered, re-booting works. Once grease has been thrown out and dirt has got in, the joint is already wearing, and a complete axle is usually cheaper than the labour to rebuild one.
