What 2013–2018 Ram 1500 owners report about the fuel system

Owners have filed 205 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the fuel pump on the 2013–2018 Ram 1500, and 1,105 filed under its fuel system. Those 205, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:

  • 2013 Ram 1500: 4 complaints
  • 2014 Ram 1500: 45 complaints
  • 2015 Ram 1500: 48 complaints
  • 2016 Ram 1500: 52 complaints
  • 2017 Ram 1500: 23 complaints
  • 2018 Ram 1500: 33 complaints

NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.

A 2016 Ram 1500 owner, NHTSA complaint 11739519: "The ABS Module in my truck went out also causing no speedometer readings. The dealership at Dodge confirmed it needs to be replaced as well as a failing fuel pump. They have had my truck since April 7th 2026. Today as of writing is May 22nd. They keep moving my estimated date for part arrival constantly."

A 2017 Ram 1500 owner, NHTSA complaint 11755971: "while driving on the highway at 75mph, the pickup engine completely lost power and died. we could not restart the engine. Eventually we were able to put it in neutral and pull it off of the highway with another pickup. The Z46 recall for the high-pressure fuel pump was replaced the prior month."

Recalls that cover the fuel pump module on the 2013–2018 Ram 1500

  • 22V406000, 2014–2018 models: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2014-2019 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 3.0L diesel engines. A high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failure may introduce internal debris into the fuel system, potentially resulting in fuel starvation. Dealers will replace the HPFP, and inspect and replace, if necessary, additional fuel system components, free of charge.

A recall repair is free at any Ram dealer. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before you pay anyone for this part — us included.

Which fuel pump module a 2013–2018 Ram 1500 takes

Modules differ by tank size, by engine, and between two- and four-wheel-drive versions that route the tank differently. The 2013–2018 Ram 1500 came with several powertrains, among them 3.0L V6 Automatic 4WD, 3.6L V6 Automatic RWD and 5.7L V8 Automatic 4WD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
