What 2015–2020 F-150 owners report about the fuel system
Owners have filed 31 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the fuel pump on the 2015–2020 Ford F-150, and 275 filed under its fuel system. Those 31, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:
- 2015 F-150: 9 complaints
- 2016 F-150: 8 complaints
- 2017 F-150: 2 complaints
- 2018 F-150: 9 complaints
- 2019 F-150: 2 complaints
- 2020 F-150: 1 complaint
NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.
A 2017 F-150 owner, NHTSA complaint 11764215: "After a big freeze my fuel level gauge stopped working. I have replaced every sensor and fuse possible, along with multiple new fuel pumps. It has been taken to a certified Ford Dealership and they can’t find the problem. There is a Ford recall that already explains the problem exactly. It is Ford 26C26."
A 2018 F-150 owner, NHTSA complaint 11672756: "I just had to replace my fuel pump due to sudden failure. It was repaired this month at Crossroads Ford of Wake Forest NC. I as well the dealer have the receipts for the repair cost. I believe it should be included in the current recall just issued by Ford and be reimbursed."
Recalls that cover the fuel pump module on the 2015–2020 F-150
- 18V392000, 2018 models: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018 Ford Expedition, F-150, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI V6 engines. These vehicles have high pressure fuel pump assemblies with welds that can fracture, which may cause an oil or fuel leak. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the high pressure fuel pump and associated components, free of charge.
A recall repair is free at any Ford dealer. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before you pay anyone for this part — us included.
Which fuel pump module a 2015–2020 F-150 takes
Modules differ by tank size, by engine, and between two- and four-wheel-drive versions that route the tank differently. The 2015–2020 Ford F-150 came with several powertrains, among them 2.7L V6 Automatic 4WD, 3.3L V6 Automatic RWD, 3.5L V6 Automatic 4WD and 5.0L V8 Automatic 4WD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
