Window Regulator with Motor for the 2014–2018 Chevrolet Silverado

What 2014–2018 Silverado owners report about the window regulators

Owners have filed 8 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention a power window on the 2014–2018 Chevrolet Silverado. Those 8, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:

• 2014 Silverado: 1 complaint
• 2015 Silverado: 2 complaints
• 2016 Silverado: 3 complaints
• 2017 Silverado: 2 complaints
• 2018 Silverado: none

NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.

A 2015 Silverado owner, NHTSA complaint 11673792: "Windows motor shorts out. If driving vehicle cuts off in order for window motor to reboot. Once you cut back on, error code tells driver to role window down and then back up."

A 2016 Silverado owner, NHTSA complaint 11740948: "Rear power window defrost thermal event. While rear defrost was on the plastic connector that goes to the rear defrost of the power rear sliding window began to smoke heavily. In 2020 there was recall number N192265660 for the 1500 series of the same year for the same component that failed and is a fire risk."

Recalls that cover the window regulator on the 2014–2018 Silverado

As of September 18, 2026, NHTSA lists no recall on the 2014–2018 Chevrolet Silverado whose defect is in the window regulator. If your car has a warning light or a symptom that a recall could explain, check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls anyway — it takes a minute.

Which window regulator a 2014–2018 Silverado takes

Regulators differ by door — front or rear, left or right — and by whether the window has auto-up with pinch protection. The 2014–2018 Chevrolet Silverado came with several powertrains, among them 4.3L V6 Automatic RWD, 5.3L V8 Automatic 4WD and 6.2L V8 Automatic 4WD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
