What 2018–2024 Equinox owners report about the fuel system
Owners have filed 184 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the fuel pump on the 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox, and 337 filed under its fuel system. Those 184, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:
- 2018 Equinox: 7 complaints
- 2019 Equinox: 7 complaints
- 2020 Equinox: 32 complaints
- 2021 Equinox: 12 complaints
- 2022 Equinox: 72 complaints
- 2023 Equinox: 37 complaints
- 2024 Equinox: 17 complaints
NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.
A 2022 Equinox owner, NHTSA complaint 11760567: "While accelerating in traffic, the car suddenly lost engine power. (Stalled). After several tries to restart, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for repair. The fuel pump control module was replaced."
A 2024 Equinox owner, NHTSA complaint 11764341: "the fuel pump control module failed at 22,016 miles on a basically NEW vehicle, with SUPPOSEDLY COVERED 36,000 mile manufacturer warranty!?"
Recalls that cover the fuel pump module on the 2018–2024 Equinox
- 18V358000, 2018 models: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2018 GMC Canyon, 2016-2017 Buick Envision, 2016-2018 Chevrolet Colorado and Malibu, 2017-2018 GMC Acadia, 2018 Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet Equinox, and GMC Terrain vehicles. The high pressure fuel pump may detach from its mounting flange, possibly resulting in the pump damaging the high pressure fuel line. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the high pressure fuel pump, and high pressure fuel pipe, free of charge.
- 23V013000, 2021 and 2022 models: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Chevrolet Equinox and 2022 GMC Terrain vehicles. The fuel pump module may not consistently provide sufficient fuel to the engine, resulting in an engine stall. Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge.
A recall repair is free at any Chevrolet dealer. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before you pay anyone for this part — us included.
Which fuel pump module a 2018–2024 Equinox takes
Modules differ by tank size, by engine, and between two- and four-wheel-drive versions that route the tank differently. The 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox came with several powertrains, among them 1.5L I4 Automatic FWD and 2.0L I4 Automatic AWD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
