A/C Compressor with Clutch for the 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox

What 2018–2024 Equinox owners report about the A/C compressors

Owners have filed 6 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the A/C compressor on the 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox. Those 6, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:

• 2018 Equinox: none
• 2019 Equinox: 3 complaints
• 2020 Equinox: 1 complaint
• 2021 Equinox: none
• 2022 Equinox: none
• 2023 Equinox: 2 complaints
• 2024 Equinox: none

NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.

A 2023 Equinox owner, NHTSA complaint 11717726: "Within the past two months, I have experienced multiple significant mechanical failures that raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety of this vehicle. First, the air conditioning compressor failed at approximately 55,000 miles."

Recalls that cover the A/C compressor on the 2018–2024 Equinox

As of September 18, 2026, NHTSA lists no recall on the 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox whose defect is in the A/C compressor. If your car has a warning light or a symptom that a recall could explain, check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls anyway — it takes a minute.

Which A/C compressor a 2018–2024 Equinox takes

Compressors differ by engine and by clutch type, and hybrids use an electric compressor that shares nothing with the belt-driven one. The 2018–2024 Chevrolet Equinox came with several powertrains, among them 1.5L I4 Automatic FWD and 2.0L I4 Automatic AWD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
