Monroe suspension & steering
Monroe's contribution is the complete strut assembly — the strut, spring, mount and bearing supplied as one pre-assembled unit. It removes the spring compressor from the job entirely, which is the single most dangerous tool in ordinary suspension work.
The repair that stopped requiring a spring compressor
Replacing a strut used to mean transferring the coil spring from the old unit to the new one. A compressed coil spring stores enough energy to kill, and doing that transfer with hire-shop tools on a driveway is how people lose fingers and eyes.
The complete assembly ends that. The spring arrives already compressed and captured inside the finished unit; the old assembly comes off as one piece and the new one goes on as one piece. It costs more than a bare strut and it takes about half the time, with none of the risk.
It also replaces the parts people skip. The upper mount and its bearing wear at the same rate as the damper, and reusing a tired mount on a new strut produces the noise and the vague steering that made the owner book the job in the first place.
Monroe has built dampers since 1916 and now sits within Tenneco. Quick-Strut is its trademark for the pre-assembled unit, and the OESpectrum valving used inside is tuned for the low-speed damping that governs body control on broken pavement — the motions a driver feels constantly, rather than the large impacts a showroom bounce test demonstrates.
