What 2013–2018 Ram 1500 owners report about the collision-avoidance, lane and rear-camera systems

Owners have filed 84 complaints with NHTSA, the US federal vehicle-safety regulator, that mention the radar, a camera, or the emergency braking, adaptive cruise or blind-spot system on the 2013–2018 Ram 1500, and 114 filed under its collision-avoidance, lane and rear-camera systems. Those 84, by model year, as of September 18, 2026:

  • 2013 Ram 1500: 4 complaints
  • 2014 Ram 1500: 8 complaints
  • 2015 Ram 1500: 6 complaints
  • 2016 Ram 1500: 12 complaints
  • 2017 Ram 1500: 10 complaints
  • 2018 Ram 1500: 44 complaints

NHTSA publishes complaints as owners wrote them and does not verify them, so read them as a pattern rather than a diagnosis.

A 2016 Ram 1500 owner, NHTSA complaint 11684555: "The ABS module has failed on my 2016 RAM 1500, which has disabled the ABS and the traction control system. This is a serious safety hazard because the vehicle now has no anti-lock braking or stability control, creating dangerous conditions in wet or emergency braking situations."

A 2018 Ram 1500 owner, NHTSA complaint 11690269: "The contact owns a 2018 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Uconnect infotainment system intermittently failed, causing the defroster and rearview camera to become inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer."

Recalls that cover the radar sensor or camera on the 2013–2018 Ram 1500

  • 18V398000, 2018 models: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2018 Dodge Journey and RAM 1500, 2500, and 3500 vehicles. The backup camera may experience a loss of image display while backing up. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors." Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rearview mirror, free of charge.

A recall repair is free at any Ram dealer. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before you pay anyone for this part — us included.

Which radar sensor or camera a 2013–2018 Ram 1500 takes

Radar sensors and cameras differ by driver-assistance package and trim, and blind-spot units by side. Every one has to be calibrated to the car after it is fitted, which is a separate job from the part. The 2013–2018 Ram 1500 came with several powertrains, among them 3.0L V6 Automatic 4WD, 3.6L V6 Automatic RWD and 5.7L V8 Automatic 4WD. That is why we ask for the VIN, or the year, engine and trim, and confirm the part against it before you pay rather than after it arrives.
